John G. Child, Sr., 58, died July 5, 2007 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born on July 10, 1948 in Rumford, ME, a son of the late Clayton and Verlie (Austin) Child. Raised in Peru, ME, he was a 1967 graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford and graduated from Southern Maine Vocational-Technical Institute in South Portland, ME in 1969. He was a resident of Nashua for ten years prior to moving to Derry, NH in 1979. John worked in the High-Tech industry for 35 years, employed by the former Sanders Associates, ComputerVision and Sanmina before changing careers to the HVAC field. At the time of his illness, he was employed as a service technician by Palmer Gas & Oil Co. He was an avid hunter.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Cecilia (Cormier) Child of Derry; a daughter, Tamera L. Harrington of Derry; a son, John G. Child, Jr. and his wife Heather of Las Vegas, NV; three grandchildren, Connor Harrington, Brayden Harrington and Jaclyn Child; two sisters, Pam McKenzie of Peru, ME and June Davis of Gorham, ME; three brothers, Jerry Child and Tom Child, both of Peru and Clay Child of Kennebunk, ME; also by nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, calling hours were held on Tuesday, July 10th from 10 AM to 12 Noon in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Private urn burial will be in the Demerritt Cemetery in Peru, ME at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 State Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-5032.
