Letitia E. (Doten) Cole, a resident of Newton died on Saturday, June 30th at Caritas St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton. She was 82 years old. Born in Waltham, she was the daughter of the late Letitia (Ebbs) and Clarence A. Doten. She was a graduate of the New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, Boston University School of Education in 1955 with a BS in Health, minoring in education, Simmons College with a Masters degree in Nursing in 1956, BU School of Nursing in 1961 with a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Specialization (Maternal and Child Health Nursing Teaching) and Harvard Public School of Health. Mrs. Cole served as a nurse in the US Army during the Korean War. She was stationed in Colorado and Japan. She was honorably discharged from the Army in 1953, having attained the rank of Captain. Mrs. Cole’s career in nursing after the war included working at the Mass Dept. of Public Health and as school nurse for the Newton Public Schools. Mrs. Cole held nursing positions at McLean Hospital, Mt. Auburn Hospital and finally at the US Post Office medical facility in Boston. Throughout her life, Mrs. Cole enjoyed archery and hiking.
The beloved wife of the late Frederick A. Cole, she is survived by her sons Frederick R. “Randy” Cole of Newton and Bruce A. Cole of Kentfield, CA and her sister Barbara Doten Herrick Frizzell of GA. A Memorial Service will be held at The Eliot Church of Newton, 474 Centre St Newton, on Thursday July 12th at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
