Obituary

Maria Olivia (Cabral) Furtado, 88, of New Bedford died Wednesday July 4, 2007 at Alden Court Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Carlos Furtado.

Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Manuel and Delfina (Branco) Cabral, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Mrs. Furtado was formerly employed as a stitcher at several local textile mills for many years until her retirement.

She was a member of the Mount Carmel Senior Citizens Club.

Survivors include four daughters, Teresa Arruda and her husband Joseph and Carmen Gillette and her husband Roy, all of New Bedford, Marie Almeida and Rose Robert and her husband Mark, all of Dartmouth; a sister Ermelinda Arruda of East Providence; an aunt, Sarah White of Taunton; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Vivian Morgado and sister of the late Gloria Salgado.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
