Domenic A. “Chippy” Maio, 78, of Attleboro died unexpectedly on Tuesday July 3, 2007 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of the late Kathe (Grehs) Maio who passed away on December 23, 1996.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island on August 29, 1928 he was a son of the late Frank and Josephine (Montecalvo) Maio.
He grew up in the Federal Hill section of Providence and was educated in Providence, graduating from Central High School. He also attended college in California where he obtained his degree in Electronics.
Mr. Maio served in the United States Air Force from 1947 – 1950 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. He was extremely proud of his participation in the Berlin Airlift and for receiving the Occupation Medal.
Chippy was a retired Tool Crib Attendant having worked for 15 years at the Crosby Valve Co. in Wrentham prior to retirement. He had also owned a restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a Produce Store in Cranston, worked at General Dynamics and also spent many years in the jewelry industry.
An avid fisherman, Mr. Maio also enjoyed operating hamm radio’s and was an enthusiast on the subject of science and mathematics. Chippy was very devoted to his loving family.
He had lived in Attleboro for the past 42 years and in addition to living in Providence, had also lived in San Diego, California. For the past several he enjoyed winters spent living in Florida with his family.
He is survived by his devoted children Raymond J. Dufresne of Attleboro, Katherine L. Vargo of Mount Hope, West Virginia, Sandra L. Rice of Norton, Mia J. Maio of Kissimmee, Florida and the late Kurt J. Dufresne who died in 2006. He was the dear brother of Madeline Prignano and Helen Labonte both of California, Laura DeLuca of Smithfield, Rhode Island and the late Marco Maio and Mary Manni. Also survived by 2 daughter-in-laws Susan Dufresne and Erin Dufresne as well as 14 cherished grandchildren, several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday July 7th from 11:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
