Obituary

John C. “Jack” Coughlin Jr., formerly of Wellesley Hills, of New London, NH and Jupiter, FL, died June 28, 2007 in New Hampshire. He was 85. He was the beloved husband of the late Jacqueline P. (Pennicke) Coughlin.

Mr. Coughlin was born in Lynn and was the son of the late John C. and Ruth (Hannan) Coughlin. He was a graduate and Class Secretary of Phillips Exeter Academy, class of 1940. He went on to graduate from Yale University, class of 1944W and earned his MBA from Harvard University Graduate School of Business, class of 1948.

A World War II Veteran, Mr. Coughlin served as a Capt. In the U.S. Army. He served in the European Theater and the Asiatic Pacific Theater, assigned to the 1477th Engineer Maintenance Company. He also served as Platoon Officer for the 90mm gun battalion. He was awarded the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was also part of the liberation of the Ludwiglust Concentration Camp, Germany.

Mr. Coughlin was the Top Career Agent & Broker for the Aetna Life Insurance Co and the Co-founder of Benefit Services Incorporated of Wellesley. He was a member of the Wellesley Country Club, Lake Sunapee Yacht Club, Harvard Club of Boston, Yale Club of NY, the Badmitten & Tennis Club of Boston, the Wellesley College Club, the Lake Sunapee Protection Assoc., the Baker Hill Golf Club in Newbury, NH, Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club in Jupiter, FL, and the Harvard Business School Assoc. of Boston.

He was the devoted father of Bruce Sumner Coughlin and his wife Barbara of South Natick, Sara Morse Coughlin of New London, NH, John Lennox Coughlin and his wife Christina of Boston, Deborah Coughlin of Naples, FL and David Forrest Coughlin and his wife Lynn of Sudbury. Brother of Sarah Lennox Mulroy of Harrisburg, PA and the late Joseph Coughlin and Constance Jones. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) Wellesley, on Friday, July 6, at 9:00 AM. Funeral mass in St. Paul’s Church, Wellesley, at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 PM. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley.
