Olivia (Silva) Costa, 83, of New Bedford died Saturday November 30, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Antonio F. Costa.
Born in Fairhaven, the daughter of the late Joaquin and Leopoldina (Lomba) Silva, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Costa was formerly employed as a floor lady at the Modern Venetian Blind Company for many years. She later worked at St. Luke's Hospital.
She was a member of the St. Luke's Women's Club.
Survivors include 4 grandchildren, JayDeen Sylvia of Dorchester, Kelli Sylvia of New York, Carlos Andre Sylvia of New Bedford, and Timmy Allen of Boston; her daughters-in-law, Patricia Sylvia of New York and Antoinette Lomba of New Bedford; 5 sisters, Louise Correia, Alice Andrews, Mary Silva, Lillian Barros, and Rose Pereira, all of New Bedford; 2 brothers, Norman Silva and Edward Silva, both of New Bedford; 3 godchildren, Steve Barros, Lady Miranda, and Beverly Gonsalves; and many nieces and nephews.She was the mother of the late Stanley Sylvia, and sister of the late Joseph Silva, Henry Silva, John Silva, Arthur Silva, Daniel Silva, Joaquin Silva, Elsie Santos, and Dorothy Silva.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday December 3, 2002 at 11 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Monday December 2, 2002 from 4-8 PM.
