Whitman- Gordon V. “Duke” Doucette died Friday June 29th in the Southwood at Norwell Nursing Facility after a period of failing health. He was the husband for 50 years of Anita (LaPorte) Doucette.
Born in Boston he was the son of the late Vincent and Alice (Butler) Doucette. He was a graduate of Hyde Park High and Boston College.
Mr. Doucette is a veteran of the United State Air Force having served as a Sergeant from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict.
He worked as an International Banker for Multi Bank International and was a past President of the Foreign Commerce Club and the Propeller Club of Boston.
He was a Whitman resident for 47 years and a communicant of the Holy Ghost Church where he served as an usher for many years. He was a 4th degree member of the Whitman K of C and achieved the rank of Grand Knight as well as a past District Deputy.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Vincent Doucette of East Bridgewater and his close friend Kathleen Costello, Stephen Doucette and his wife Shelley of Charlton, Kenneth Doucette and his wife Maria of Malden and John Doucette and his wife Michelle of Hanson. He is also survived by nine grandchildren.
His funeral will be held Tuesday July 3rd @ 9:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte 58 @ the Rotary Circle) Whitman, followed by a mass @ 10:00 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, School Street, Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Monday July 2nd 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
