Obituary

Jennie C. (Turano) Woodruff, 87, of Woodridge Circle, Gales Ferry, passed away Thursday at Backus Hospital.

Mrs. Woodruff was born in Washington, PA on November 5, 1919 the daughter of Santo and Rose (Iaco) Turano. She was a former resident of Westerly before moving to Gales Ferry.

She was the loving wife of the late Samuel H. “Woody” Woodruff whom she married in National City, CA on December 23, 1942. Mr. Woodruff died on their anniversary on December 23, 1997.

Mrs. Woodruff was an active communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Gales Ferry. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook and a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her sons, Ronald J. Woodruff of Keene, NH, and Stephen S. Woodruff and his wife Susan of Preston; a daughter-in-law, Joanne Cornell & husband David of Mystic; her siblings, Gilda Colley & husband George of TX, John A. Turano & wife Dorothy of No. Stonington, Philomena Wroblewski of MD, and Anthony Turano & wife Karen of Westerly; her grandchildren, Ronald Woodruff Jr., Brian Woodruff, Sarah Currier, Sean Woodruff; her great-grandchildren, Damion Currier and Colin Royster, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Thomas, Frank, John and Santo Turano; Mary West, Louis Conto, Rose B. Korytkowsi, and Carmela “Minnie” Cortese.

Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Sunday from 2-6pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Rte. 12, Gales Ferry, on Monday at 10am. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum, New London.
