Robert E.”Earle” Dougherty, 70, died Monday June 25th in the Guardian Center in Brockton after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Martha P.(Flint) Dougherty and Flora E. (Swenson) Dougherty.
Born in Brockton he was the son of Willis and Bernice (Hood) Dougherty, he attended East Bridgewater Schools and was a lifetime resident of East Bridgewater.
He was a United States Navy Veteran during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, he served 11 years as a Machinist Mate “A” aboard the USS Truckee.
He worked as a mechanic for the Polaroid Corporation for many years.
Earle was a former member of the former Russell Masonic Lodge in Brockton
Earle liked to do fine woodworking and he helped build the Pilgrim Pines Chapel in West Swanzey, New Hampshire also dancing.
He is survived by four sons and two daughters, Robert H. Dougherty of East Bridgewater, Kirk J. Macolini of New York, Russell D. Dougherty of Bridgewater, Timothy S. Dougherty of New Hampshire, Lynne Macolini of Stoughton and Samantha Avery of New Hampshire; five grandchildren, 9 nieces and nephews.
Memorial services and a burial at sea by the United States Navy will be held at a later date. Family and friends may attend visiting hours Friday June 29th 5-8 P.M. in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Route 58 at the Rotary Circle) Whitman.
