John B. Dey
...WWII Veteran of the U.S. Army, 83
TEWKSBURY - John B. Dey, a well known and active member of St. William's Parish, died Friday Nov. 29 at Winchester Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Joan E. (Allard) (Martin), with whom he had celebrated a 24th wedding anniversary this past August 11, 2002.
He was born in Partic, Glasgow, Scotland the son of the late James and Helen (Totten) Dey, and raised in Cambridge. He emigrated to the U.S. at the age of 3, attended public schools, and graduated from Cambridge Rindge and Latin. He enlisted into the U.S. Army during WWII, where he earned the rank of Tech 4Th Grade Sergeant.
John retired from Commonwealth Energy Corp. in 1978 after 39 years. He lived in Tewksbury since 1954, where he was a communicant of St. William's Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, William J. Martin III of Pelham, NH, Stephen C. Martin of California, five daughters Mary L. and her husband James Stewart of Wilmington, Cheryl and her husband John Ring of Wilmington, Eileen and her husband William Tufts of Nashua, NH, Jean and her husband John Snook of Westford, Joan Ryan and Robert Dodd of Tewksbury, fourteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren.
He was also the husband of the late Catherine McCarthy brother of the late Jean Freitas and Betty Giraud and, Father-in-law to the late Patrick Ryan.
His Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, Dec. 4, in St. William's Church. Interment was in Tewksbury Cemetery.
