Shirley A. (Driscoll) Maccini, 71, of New Bedford and Port Charlotte, Florida died Monday June 25, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Robert C. Maccini to whom she was married for 50 years.
Born and raised in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Timothy and Lillian (Patnaude) Driscoll. She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church.
Mrs. Maccini was a registered nurse who graduated from St. Anne School of Nursing in Fall River, and was employed by the City of New Bedford as a school nurse for 32 years before retiring.
Her greatest joy in life was being in the company of her seven grandchildren. She enjoyed singing, reading, and playing games with them and was always in attendance at their school and sporting events.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Brian Maccini and his wife Robin and Cathy Maccini and her husband Robert Gaumont, all of Dartmouth, and Susan Alves and her husband Scott of New Bedford; seven grandchildren, Patrick, Justin, and Alex Maccini, Andrew, Matthew, and Nicholas Alves, and Grace Gaumont; two sisters, Mary Mosher and her husband William and Nancy Smith and her husband Richard, all of Dartmouth; and nieces and nephews. She was the sister-in-law of Mary and Harry Peitavino, Lillian Bono, Alice Franceschi, Joseph and Marilyn Maccini, and Claire Maccini.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
