Maria O. (Almeida) Rogers, 85, of Dartmouth died Friday June 22, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late John C. Rogers, Sr.
Born in New Bedford and raised in Boston, the daughter of the late Candido and Olivia (Fortes) Almeida, she lived in Dartmouth since 1969.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, where she was active in the St. Martin de Porres Guild.
Mrs. Rogers was formerly employed by Kay Windsor Manufacturing.
She was a graduate of Girls High School in Boston. She was a member of the Merchant Mariners Club.
Survivors include six children, John C. Rogers Jr. and Jean DaSilva, both of Marion, Jerry Rogers of Sandisfield, Janice Rogers of Dartmouth, June Evora of New Bedford, and Jaimie Rogers of Winthrop; a brother, James J. Almeida of Weymouth; two sisters, Flory Gonsalves of Jamaica Plain and Mildred Eriksen of Los Angeles; a dear friend of many years, Rosalie Pimental; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late John and Armando Almeida and Sylvia Alves.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
