TEWKSBURY - Nicholas Carbone, age 90, the former Beverage Manager at Boston’s Copley Plaza Hotel, died Thursday evening, June 21, at the Woodbrier of Wilmington, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Christine M. (Costanzo) Carbone, with whom he had celebrated a 60th wedding anniversary this past October 12th.
He was born in Revere, on February 8, 1917, a son of the late Frank and Nicole Carbone. He was raised in Plymouth, Mass., and graduated from Plymouth High School with the Class of 1937. In his youth, he participated in high school football, baseball, and basketball, and was recognized in
1991 with induction into the Plymouth High School’s Sports Hall of Fame. He lived in Somerville and Burlington before moving to “Eagles Landing” in Tewksbury in 1999, and was a
communicant of St. William’s Church in Tewksbury.
During WWII, he served in Company G of the 325th Glider Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division. He participated in Operation “Market Garden” in September 1944, The Battle
of the Bulge in December 1944, and the Occupation of Berlin in May 1945.
He retired from the Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston, and had also worked at Logan Airport’s Promenade Pub.
He was described by his family as a devoted Yankee’s baseball team fan.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law; John F. Carbone and Henrietta (Vernacchio) of Woburn, Louis A. Carbone and Deborah (DiManno), Nicholas J.
Carbone and Geraldine (Bagarella) of Wakefield; a brother and sister-in-law, Anthony Carbone and Rose of DE; a sister and brother-in-law, Prudence Sarcone and Sal of MD; eight
grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.
He was also brother of the late Constance Bagnell and John Carbone.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, June 25, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Burial followed in Pine Haven cemetery, Burlington. Memorials to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude, Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 will be appreciated.
