Phyllis C. (Tardie) Coles, 86 years, died Thursday at her home under the care of Hospice after a lengthy illness. Born in East Bridgewater, daughter of the late Moses and Mary (Tero) Tardie, she was raised in Brockton and was a 1942 graduate of Brockton High School. She had been employed for many years as a telephone operator for New England Tel & Tel and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Phyllis enjoyed knitting and would donate her knitted shawls and doll blankets to local nursing homes and hospitals. She also enjoyed cooking.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years George B. Coles, one daughter Cheryl A. Spillane of Brockton, one son John A. Coles, BPD, of E. Bridgewater, five grandchildren, Daniel, Kristy and Lori Spillane and Kaitlyn and Michael Coles, and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Eva Atkinson, Mary “Tootsie” Dunn, Kay Urbanowicz, Anita Gillen, Bertha Sheehan and George, Arthur, Louis, William, Wilfred and Raymond Tardier
