Harold E. Lovering “Master Storyteller”, 94, formerly of Sargent Road, Sandown, NH died in his sleep on Thanksgiving Day at the Integrated Health Services of Derry. He was born in West Lebanon, NH on April 2, 1908. Harold came to live in Sandown and settled into his grandparent’s home on Sargent Road in 1909. He was educated in Sandown. After his marriage to Nellie (Luce) Lovering, they moved to their home at 74 Sargent Road, where they resided for almost 60 years. Two rocking chairs sat proudly on their front porch, where many happy hours were spent bird watching, storytelling and talking to anyone walking by. Harold was employed as a carpenter for many years, along with his side job of sharpening saws in his own shop. His hobbies were gardening, carpentering, reading and watching old westerns on television. He also had a special fondness for both the Sandown and Chester Fire Departments. Harold’s love of country was renowned and his flag was proudly displayed on every patriotic holiday. Harold was the husband of the late Nellie (Luce) Lovering who died on May 24, 1995.
He is survived by two brothers Ernest True, Raymond, NH, Raleigh True, Albany, VT, many loving nieces and nephews, close friend Fire Chief Irving Bassett, Sandown, NH and many beloved friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday December 2, 2002 at 10:00am at The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. Burial will follow at the Center Cemetery, Sandown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 –5 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
