SHREWSBURY-William J. Sweeney, 55 of 6104 Arbor Drive died Wednesday, November 27th at home. He leaves his long time companion, Marlene A. Tribandis with whom he lived; his former wife, Dolores (Brusa) Sweeney of Worcester; 3 sons, John D. Sweeney, William P. Sweeney and Michael J. Sweeney all of Worcester; a sister, Kathleen A. Long of Worcester; 3 stepsons, Martin Tribandis and Steve Tribandis both of Worcester and Thomas Tribandis of Shrewsbury; 3 grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.
He was born in Worcester the son of John J. and Anne M. (Dagnese) Sweeney and lived on Cape Cod for 20 years before moving to Shrewsbury last year. He graduated from St. Peter’s High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in education and languages from Worcester State College. Mr. Sweeney was a Documentation Writer and Technical Support for AstroLabe Software Company in Orleans. He taught Spanish for West Boylston High School, from 1969 to 1975 and taught German and Spanish for Dennis-Yarmouth High School from 1980 to 1981. He co-owned Ephraim’s Bookstore in Worcester and founded, owned and operated Bayberry Books in Hyannis. He also was a projectionist at local Cape Cod theaters. He was a THX Certified Home Acoustics Specialist. He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. An intellectual, he vested his talents in various capacities. He performed in his own band in college. He was an avid reader, loved aviation, was a JFK buff and enjoyed films.
The funeral will be Monday, December 2nd from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton Street, Worcester. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be Sunday, December 1st from 3:00 until 6:00 PM in the funeral home.
