Obituary

Richard J. Lally, 80, of New Bedford died Monday June 18, 2007 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Anna M. (Colfer) Lally; they had been married for 58 years.

Born in Haverhill, the son of the late James R. and Frances (Malia) Lally, he lived in Dorchester and New Bedford for most of his life.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.

Mr. Lally was formerly employed as an accountant.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a Past President of the Pine Hill Acres Association and St. Mary's C.C.D. He was a graduate of Bentley School of Accounting and Finance.

Survivors include his wife; five children, Richard J. Lally and his wife Nancy of Acushnet, James J. Lally and his wife Sharon of New Bedford, Maureen E. Chace and her husband William of Franklin, TN, Kathryn F. Freitas and her husband Dennis of Acushnet, and John T. Lally and his wife Judy of Fairhaven; a sister, Mary Myers of New Bedford; eleven grandchildren; a great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late JoAnne Braica.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 9 AM in St. Mary's Church, Tarkiln Hill Rd. Burial with military honors will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
