Obituary

Christine Barbara Guice Meriwether was born on May 28, 1915, in Kosciusko, Mississippi, to Seymour and Allee Flowers Guice. She was the second of three children. Christine was reared in Memphis, Tennessee.

After completing her education at Lemoyne College, she taught in Texarkana, Arkansas. During World War II she met and married a distinguished dentist from Indianapolis, Indiana. To this union were born identical twin daughters, Norma Christine and Sandra Darlene.

Mrs. Meriwether led a very active life in Indianapolis. For many years she was a homemaker, and was very involved in the PTA (president), Girl Scouts of America (troop leader), and also Jack and Jill of America, Inc. (Indianapolis Chapter, charter member) with her daughters. She returned to teaching when her daughters entered college. Mrs. Meriwether was a long time member of the Green Thumb Garden Club and served faithfully as president. She was also a past president of the Med-De-Phar Guild, an organization of wives whose husbands were physicians, dentists, and pharmacists. Additionally, she was a long-time member of the Auxiliary to the National Dental Association.

In February of 1979, three months after the death of her beloved husband, Sirdastion D. Meriwether, she moved to Miami, Florida, to be near one of her daughters. She immediately became active in Dade County, working with senior citizens, and joining St. Paul A.M.E. Church. At St. Paul she was an active member of the Stewardess Board and the church's missionary society. Many, many hours were spent volunteering at Biscayne Gardens Community School, where daughter Darlene was a teacher. Mrs. Meriwether was also a member of the Auxiliary to the Dade County Dental Society, Auxiliary to the Florida Medical, Dental, and Pharmaceutical Association, and the Auxiliary to the National Dental Association.

After fourteen years in Miami, she felt it was time to move closer to her other daughter, Christine, in Huntsville. Her local memberships included St. John A.M.E. Church where she served as a Stewardess and a Deaconess. She was a member of the church's Fifty-Plus Auxiliary and Women's Missionary Society.

Christine Barbara Meriwether was a role model for many individuals of all ages. She will be greatly missed.

She leaves to mourn her memory her daughters, Sandra Darlene Gay and Norma Christine McMillan; sons-in law: Dr. Joseph S. Gay and Dr. Charles E. McMillan; grandchildren: Nona Copeland (Ulric), Joseph Gay (Kelli), Veronica Gay (fiancé, Isaac Brown), Natalie Hope, and Nicole McMillan; great¬ grandchildren: Madison Allen, Alysia Copeland, Jaxon Gay, Cayden Hope, Christopher Hope, Brandon Moore, Ladon Moore; nieces, Julia Ballenger, Wyetta M.
