Obituary

Campbell, Frank A., age 90, husband of the late Joanna O. Campbell for 60 years, passed away on June 9th after a brief illness. A life-long resident of Hackensack, and a direct descendant of original Bergen County and Hackensack area settlers, he was the son of Edith Banta and Frank Campbell. Mr. Campbell attended Fairmont School and graduated from Hackensack High School in 1934. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy, and served as a Captain in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Africa, Mediterranean, and European combat theaters from 1942 to 1945. He completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Colorado in 1947. Mr. Campbell was a Licensed Profession Engineer and Land Surveyor in private practice, and retiree of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He was an avid supporter of the city government and a constant participant in civic activities throughout his entire life.
Mr. Campbell is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Bruce and Susan Campbell of Winchester, Ky., and Lee and Helen Campbell of Lakewood, Ca.; four grandchildren: Amy Campbell Williams, West Virginia; Dr. Jennie E. Campbell, Kentucky; Capt. David A. Campbell (USAF), Japan; and Shelby Lee Campbell, California; one brother, Dolph Campbell; two sisters, Mrs. Maude Abbott and Mrs. Helen Petrovits; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Margret Taylor and Mrs. Marion Dubreuil, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 64 Passaic Street in Hackensack, on Saturday, June 23rd, at 10:00am. A burial service will follow in the Hackensack Cemetery. Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Bergen County Historical Society, or a local Boy Scouts Of America troop of choice.
