Obituary

DRACUT - Nicholas J. Barjokas, 88, a Dracut resident, passed away Tuesday, June 12th at his home. He was the husband of the late Georgia (Efstathiou) Barjokas.

He was born in Manchester, NH on August 27, 1918, the son of the late John and Fannie (Harris) Barjokas. He received his education through the Lowell school system and was a graduate of Lowell High School. He also attended New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.

Mr. Barjokas served in the U.S. Army during World War II and played the trumpet as a bandsman during the war while he was stationed in Italy. He owned and operated an Esso station in Lowell until his retirement.

Mr. Barjokas was a member of Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Lowell, the Greek American Legion in Lowell, the National Rifle Association, and the Masonic Lodge in Lowell. He was an avid collector of old films, with an extensive knowledge of movie history. He also enjoyed painting.


He is survived by two nieces Georgia Whelton of Tyngsboro and Frances Murphy of Dracut. He also leaves his late wife’s three sisters and two brothers. In addition to his wife, he is predeceased by a daughter Joanne Barjokas and a sister Florence Athenais.

Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Sunday from 4 until 7 PM. His Funeral will begin at the funeral home on Monday at 10:00 AM followed by his Funeral Service to be celebrated at 11 AM at the
Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Lowell. Burial in Westlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 62 Lewis Street, Lowell, MA 01854 or to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack Street, Building 9, Lawrence, MA 01843.
