Laura M. (Wesolowski) McCarthy, 94, of Mansfield formerly of Newton Lowers Falls and Shirley died on Monday June 11, 2007 at home surrounded by the love of her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Timothy E. McCarthy who passed away on October 14, 1995.
Born in Shirley, MA on September 25, 1912 she was a loving daughter of the late Albert and Rose (Golas) Wesolowski.
She grew up in Shirley and was a graduate of Fitchburg High School. She went on to graduate from the University of Maine.
Mrs. McCarthy was a retired Social Worker having worked for the former Robert Brent Brigham Arthritic Hospital in Boston. She had formerly been employed as an Elementary School teacher for the town of Shirley school system.
Laura had lived in Mansfield for the past 5 years. Before moving in with her son and daughter in law she had lived at Willow crossing, also in Mansfield. She was a former longtime resident of Newton Lower Falls and Shirley. Laura’s family was especially grateful to the staff of Willow Crossing, the Epoch Senior Health Care Center in Norton, The Sturdy memorial Hospital in Attleboro, the Community Visiting Nurse Agency in Attleboro and to Dr. Eleanor Mody for her care and support.
Mrs. McCarthy enjoyed traveling with her late husband Timothy. She also enjoyed history, gardening, spending time with her adoring family and animals, especially her family pet pug “Guinness”. She was also a former member of the Wellesley Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her devoted son Robert A. McCarthy and his wife Patricia of Mansfield. Her cherished grandchildren; Kathleen R. McCarthy and Brian R. McCarthy both of Newton Lower Falls. Her dear sister Genevieve Kacmarczyk of Shirley and Acton and her brother Zigmund Wesolowski and his wife Gladys of Shirley. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and both longtime and more recent friends and neighbors. She was the sister of the late Matthew Wesolowski. She was the sister in law of the late Gloria Wesolowski and Joseph Kacmarczyk. She was the aunt of the late William Wesolowski.
Her funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday June 15th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Anthony’s Church, 33 Chapel St., Shirley. Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Shirley.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday June 14th from 2-5 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
