Obituary

Sally Smith Mitchell, 92, of Fitzgerald, died Tuesday, June 12 at Crowne Health Care in Eufaula, Alabama.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Thursday, June 14, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with Rev. Kelly Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mitchell was born July 15, 1914, in Osierfield, Georgia, to the late Grover Cleveland and Hattie Rebecca Walsh Smith. She lived in the community most of her life and was a former resident of Baltimore, Maryland. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Women’s Club, American Legion Auxillary, UDC, Order of Eastern Star and the Green Thumb Garden Club. She was a homemaker and a Gray Lady at the Ben Hill County Hospital. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her three sons and a daughter, James R. Mitchell of Port Arthur, TX, Theodore “Ted” Mitchell of Fitzgerald, Robert M. “Bobby” Mitchell of Eufaula, Al and Joyce Werner of Lake Worth, FL; 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; brother, Grover Henry Smith of Ocala, FL; She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Mitchell, Sr., son, John C. Mitchell, Jr., son-in-law, George Werner, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
