Obituary

James Edwin Bridges, 76, of Fitzgerald, died Monday, June 11 at his residence.

Graveside services will be held 11 A.M., Thursday, June 14, in the Evergreen Cemetery, with Pastor Nook Burge officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Bridges was born February 2, 1931, in Pineview, Georgia, to the late Cliff and Jewel Crozier Bridges. He moved to Fitzgerald in 1941, graduating from Fitzgerald High School in 1948. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in which he served twenty years before retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. During his military service he participated in Atomic and Hydrogen Bomb Tests on Kwajalein and Eniwetok Atoll on two occasions during Projects Ivy and Castle. He was a Vietnam veteran and served during the TET Offensive in 1968. Mr. Bridges was a member of Colony City Community Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lidiette C. Bridges of Fitzgerald; daughters, Dr. Sheryl Bridges of Winston-Salem, NC, Diane Williams of Cary, NC and Teresa McCoy of Sarasota, FL; twin sons, David and Paul Bridges of Napa, CA; 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; sisters, Inez Woods and Helen Jackson both of Fitzgerald; brothers, Cliff Bridges, Jr., of Newnan and Allen Bridges of Fitzgerald as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Bridges.
