James M. Gunning a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Thursday June 7, 2007 at The Chelsea Soldiers Home in Chelsea following a lengthy illness. He was 80 years old.
Jim was born in Boston, he grew up in Charlestown and attended Boston Public Schools. He enlisted into the United States Army in November of 1950. He served during the Korean Conflict and was discharged in November of 1952. Jim worked for over 35 years at Schraffts Candy Company in Charlestown. He was also a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association.
Jim is the beloved son of the late John J. and Margaret (Harte) Gunning. He is the devoted twin brother of Margaret Murphy of Medford and brother of Mary Walsh, Francis and Frederick Gunning all of Charlestown, John Gunning of Peabody, and the late Thomas Gunning. He is the loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Jim's Funeral will be held on Tuesday June 12, 2007 at 9 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Jim will be held on Monday June 11, 2007 from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will take place in the Veterans National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45 p.m.
