Obituary

WORCESTER__Sophie V.(Yurkevicius) Roland, 85, formerly of 16 Baldwin St. died November 22, in UMass-Memorial Medical Center - Memorial Campus, 119 Belmont St., following an illness.

Her husband of 63 years, Francis J. Roland died in 2000. She is survived by two sons, James F. Roland of Webster and Paul E. Roland of Worcester; two daughters MaryAnn F. Dowd of Worcester and Susan T. Eramo of Shirley, Ma., A brother William Yurkevicius of Idaho and a sister, Helen Marconi of Barre Ma., 22 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.Mrs. Roland was born in Worcester a daughter of Paul and Mary Yurkevicius and lived here for most of her life. She was a graduate of the former High School of Commerce.

She retired in 1972 as Manager of the Domestics Department of the former Zayre Department Store, where she worked for eight years.A longtime member of Saint Casimir Parish, she had been a member of it's Mothers Guild, Council 26, Knights of Lithuania, The Lithuanian Charitable Society and the Sisters of Saint Casimir Auxillary.Mrs. Roland enjoyed Gardening, Knitting and Ceramics.

The funeral will be held Tuesday November 26, from Dirsa-Morin Funeral Home 298 Grafton St., with a Mass at 10am in St. Casimirs Church 41 Providence St. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be from 6 to 8 pm Monday November 25.Members of Council 26, Knights of Lithuania will meet at 6:30 pm Monday to conduct their ritual.The family requests that flowers be omitted and that donations be made to the Restoration Fund of Saint Casimirs Church 41 Providence St., Worcester, 01604.
