Leo J. “Lee” Dagenais of 25 Union Avenue died November 23, 2002 in the Hospice House in Concord NH. He was born in Laconia on July 7, 1921, the son of Joseph and Lena (Chouinard) Dagenais and had resided in Laconia all of his life.
He served the 197th Coast artillery of the New Hampshire National Guard and was activated in to the Army during World War II, serving with the 744th Artillery Gun Battalion in the Asiatic-Pacific theater.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a machinist fro Scott & Williams for 31 years. He also worked as a meat cutter at the former Leo’s Foodcenter on Pine St.
Mr. Dagenais was a communicant of Sacred Heart parish. He held membership in the Disabled American Veterans and was a life member of the Laconia Lodge of Elks. He was also a member of the Golden Age Association.
He enjoyed golf at the Lakeview Country Club, hunting, fishing and was known as an avid ice fisherman.
Family members include his wife of 56 years, Rita A. (Henault) Dagenais of Laconia; a daughter, Michele Sedgley and her husband Robert of Laconia; a son Mark Dagenais and his wife, Barbara of Manchester; five grandsons, Ryan MacKissock, Bryce Dagenais, Robert Sedgley Jr., Erik Sedgley, Aaron Sedgely and his wife Cara; a great granddaughter, Emma Sedgley. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Dorothy Laro Clairmont and two brothers, Theodore and Philippe Dagenais.
Calling hours were in the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St. Laconia on Monday from 7 to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial wascelebrated in Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Ave. Laconia on Tuesday at 10 AM. Rev. Adrien Longchamps, Pastor was the celebrant. Burial with military honors followed in Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice House, 242 Pleasant St., Concord NH 03301. Timothy C. Molan and David L. Furber were the funeral directors.
