Robert W. Read, Sr., 84, of Gardner and formerly of Holliston died Monday, June 4, 2007 at the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home in Gardner. He was the husband of Naomi Pearl (Brundage) Read.
Born in Marblehead on October 14, 1922, he was a son of the late Harold Benjamin and Cora Lillian (Hills) Read.
He was a graduate of Holliston High School and he received an Associate’s Degree from Stockbridge School of Agriculture at UMASS Amherst.
Mr. Read was a WWII Navy veteran and before his retirement, he was an optical technician at Valpey Corp. in Holliston for many years.
He was a member of the Mount Hollis Masonic Lodge, the Odd Fellows and the American Legion Post, all in Holliston. Mr. Read enjoyed many hobbies including road trips, music and many art-full pursuits including stained glass.
Besides his wife of 55 years, he is survived by two daughters, Patricia J. Read of Ashby and Janice Read Nowicki and her husband, Stephen of Auburn, his son, Robert W. Read, Jr. and his wife, Susan of Danvers and five grandchildren, Louis Capozzi, Dr. Matthew Capozzi, Allison Read and Michael and Daniel Nowicki.
He is also survived by his niece, Barbara Goulding of Holliston and a family friend, Karen Bernhardt of Ashby. He was brother of the late Gordon Read
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Friday, June 8 at 11 a.m. in the Ginley – Crowley Funeral Home (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com), 3 Barber St. in Medway. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Medway.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5 – 8 p.m.
