LOWELL – Julia Christynia (Retired US Navy Radioman Chief, 94, passed away on June 1, 2007. She was a lifelong resident of Dracut and was a member of a well-known Dracut family.
Born in Dracut, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Maryanna (Wazocha) Krystyniak. Julia attended Dracut Schools. Upon graduating from Lowell High School, Julia worked at Hartwell Farms in Littleton.
In 1944, Julia entered the US Naval Service. During her 23 years in the Navy, she was stationed throughout the United States (Boston, MA; Philadelphia, PA; Alameda, CA; New York City, NY; Seattle, WA; and Patuxent River, MD) serving in different capacities in the Communications field. For her leadership and selfless devotion to duty, she earned many awards during her career serving in both World War II and The Korean War, including seven Good Conduct Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, an American Area Service Medal, and an American Theatre Service Medal.
In 1967, Julia retired from the US Navy and returned to Dracut. She worked as a Tax Examiner for the Internal Revenue Service in Andover and the Brox Family Farm. She also did volunteer work, helping members of the Dracut Senior Center with Income Tax Returns. She was a member of St. Francis Church in Dracut. She was an avid reader and scrabble player, a lover of nature, and a member of Drumlin Farm. She was also a member of the USS Constitution Association.
At the request of the family all services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT.
