Edward J. Ruel, Sr., 84, of Mattapoisett died Sunday June 3, 2007 at his home. He was the husband of the late Pauline H. (Schutze) Ruel.
Born in Boston, the son of the late Edme J. and Mary Frances (Mahoney) Ruel, he had lived in Dedham, Dover, and Mattapoisett.
Mr. Ruel was the owner of Consolidated Heat & Power in Boston for 55 years.
Mr. Ruel enjoyed golfing, boating, and fishing, and was an accomplished saxophone player. He enjoyed sharing the seaside community of Mattapoisett with his family. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is survived by four children, Edward J. "Muddy" Ruel Jr. and his wife Debbie, Dr. Jon A. Ruel and his wife Joan, Steven D. Ruel and his wife Joy, all of Mattapoisett and Dr. Paula A. Ruel of Franklin; a brother, Charles W. Ruel of Plymouth; a sister, Jeanne Ruel Howley of Dedham; seven grandchildren, Edward J. Ruel III, Heather M. Ruel, Rachel E. Ruel, Jon A. Ruel Jr., Jason Ruel, Philip Ruel-Kleine, and Joseph Ruel-Kleine; four great-grandchildren, Edward J. Ruel IV, Jillian Ruel, Jenna Ruel, and Jackson Ruel; and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his long-time caretaker, Lisa M. Burchell of New Bedford.
He was the brother of the late Margaret Conlon and Lillian Empey.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday June 16, 2007 at 10 AM in St. Mary's Church, 420 High St., Dedham, with burial to follow in Brookdale Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted.
