Eleanor (Reed) Dunbar 84, died Saturday June 2nd in the Coyne Healthcare Center of Rockland, after a period of failing health. She was the loving wife of 64 years to Donald J. Dunbar.
Born in Whitman she was a daughter of the late Dwight B. and Elsie (Poole) Reed.
She attended Whitman Schools and was a graduate of Whitman High School Class of 1941.
She was employed by the former Whitman Savings Bank in the Life Insurance Department for over 20 years.
Eleanor was an active member of the Whitman community serving on the Whitman Historical Commission, the Band Stand Committee, the Whitman Supper Club, and the Whitman Mother’s Club participating in many of their variety shows which were the hit of the town. She was a talented local artist as well.
She was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Whitman where she served on the ECW board and was the directress of the Altar Guild.
She summered on the Cape in Orleans, and enjoyed traveling, dancing, sewing, reading, and crossword puzzles.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Rudolph of East Bridgewater, Constance Gibeault of Taunton, Mary Eleanor Dunbar of Boston, and Elizabeth Smith of East Bridgewater. She was the sister of the late Dorothy Record and Bertha Clark. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.
Her funeral service will be held Saturday June 9th at 10:00 AM in the All Saints Episcopal Church, 44 Park Ave. Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman.
