TEWKSBURY - Mary Claire (Hunt) Sullivan, age 72, a member of a well known Tewksbury family, died unexpectedly at her Tewksbury home on Sunday, June 3. She was the beloved wife of Charles W. Sullivan Sr., who died in September, 2004.
She was born in Chelmsford, on September 22, 1934, one of ten children of the late Bernard and Catherine (Preston) Hunt. She was raised in Chelmsford, and graduated from Chelmsford High School. She was known for her sparkling sense of humor, and continually reminded people that she had been a Majorette in high school. She had lived in Tewksbury the greater part of her life, and in her retirement years wintered in Ft. Myers, Florida, and summered in Wells, Maine and Tewksbury.
Mrs. Sullivan was a communicant of St. William’s Church.
In her earlier years, she was a member the Women’s Auxiliary of the Tewksbury V.F.W. Post 8164. In her later years was active with the Chelmsford, Wells, Maine, and Ft. Myers, Florida Chapter of the Red Hat Society.
She retired from St. John’s Hospital, now Saints Memorial Medical Center, as a secretary and clerk in the Emergency Department.
She is survived by four children, Charles W. Sullivan Jr. and his companion Sandra Mellen both of Lowell, Donna and her husband Richard Sullivan of Tewksbury, with whom she made her home, Janet and her husband Kenneth Aalerud of Tewksbury, and Thomas and his wife Sue (Perreault) Sullivan of Tewksbury; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Sullivan, Charlene Aalerud, Kenny Aalerud, Timmy Aalerud, Eric Aalerud, Ben Sullivan, and Peter Sullivan; one great grandson; Alex; six brothers and sisters, Barbara Scally and her husband John of Woburn, Margaret Whitney of Ocala, Fla., Nancy McDevitt and her husband William of Tewksbury, Winifred Rutledge of Danville, VA, Gerald Hunt and his wife Elizabeth of Billerica, Dennis Hunt and his wife Yvette of Chelmsford; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Beryl Hunt of Dracut, Timothy McCarthy of Billerica, Theresa Sullivan of Tewksbury, Eleanor Edge of Chelmsford, Theresa Backoff of Tewksbury, Catherine and Earl Doak of Fla., Jean and William LaMarre of New Ipswich, NH, Marie Nolan of Tewksbury, David and Linda Sullivan of Tewksbury, Patrick Sullivan of Chester, NH, Patricia and Ed Duffet of Hudson, NH, Carol and Victor Chartier of Londonderry, NH, Janet and Richard Martin of Hudson, NH, James and Kathleen Sullivan of Tewksbury, Rita and Michael Hassett of Chelmsford; and ninety-two nieces and nephews.
She was grandmother of the late Charles W. “Chucky” Sullivan III, and sister of the late Bernard “Sonny” Hunt, Eileen Lewis, and Estelle McCarthy.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, June 7, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Burial was in Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701, will be appreciated.
