Obituary

Steven P. Cabral, 51, of New Bedford died November 22, 2002 at home after a brief illness.

He was the husband of Patricia A. (Soares) Cabral and son of the late Manuel J. Cabral and Antoinette (Gomes) Jenkins.

Mr. Cabral was born in New Bedford and lived in New Bedford all of his life.

He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

Mr. Cabral was presently employed at My Bread Baking Company. He was previously employed as shipping supervisor at Shepard Clothing for 23 years.

For the last 10 years, he has been the parade coordinator for the annual Cape Verdean Recognition Parade. He was the manager of the Dream Warriors Drum and Bugle Corps of New Bedford, a member of the Cape Verdean Players Band, the Mark IV Band, drum instructor for the Rhode Island Picadors Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a former member of the Verdean Vets Varkeros Drum and Bugle Corps of New Bedford, the Whalers Drum and Bugle Corps and the Rhode Island Matadors Drum and Bugle Corps.Mr. Cabral was an honorary member of the Cape Verdean- American Veterans Association. He was one of the founding members of the 3rd Generation Club.

Survivors include his stepmother, Julia Cabral of New Bedford; a daughter, Teresa M. Cabral of New Bedford; 2 brothers, Manuel "Sonny" Cabral, and his wife Jacqueline, of Florida and Peter Cabral, and his fiancée Justine Holland, of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Antoinette Cabral, and her fiancé Donald Garron, and Jennie Antunes, and her husband Michael, all of New Bedford; 3 stepbrothers, Robert Monteiro of Atlanta, Jody Monteiro, and his wife Kathy, of New Bedford and William Monteiro of Reno, Nevada; a step-sister, Constance Andrade of New Bedford; several nieces and nephews including Shea Michael Cabral, who was like a son, Sheena Barboza, who was like a daughter, of New Bedford; 2 godsons, Bryce Moore of New Bedford and Manuel J. Cabral, IV of Mattapoisett; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordTuesday, November 26th at 8 AM.Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Visiting hours Monday, November 25th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.

Interment St. John's Cemetery.
