Maurice Reed 96, died Saturday June 2nd in the Life Care Center of Plymouth after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Louise K. (Porter) Reed.
Born and educated in East Bridgewater he was the son of the late Edmund L. and Florence M. (Turner) Reed.
Maurice moved to Brockton where he lived all his married life. He loved music, played the violin and had his own country band which played on the Brockton radio station WBET in the late 40’s and early 50’s.
He worked as a shipper / receiver for Weymouth Art Leather in Braintree.
He later moved to Whitman then Carver where he remained active in politics up until his 90’s as a member of the Republican Town Committee.
He is survived by his children, Virginia Morgan of PA, Miriam Sylvia of Middleboro, Cynthia Davy of Brockton. He was the father of the late Clifton Reed, and the last surviving sibling of 12 children. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Wednesday June 6th at 2:00PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rte 58 @ the rotary circle) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery, Stoughton. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the service from 1-2 PM.
