Mary P. (Rantano) McLaughlin, a lifelong resident of Woburn, passed away peacefully at her home, with her family at her side, on Wednesday, May 30, following a brief illness.
Mary was born in Woburn seventy-one years ago. She was raised in “ East Woburn” on Grape St. where she spent her entire life. Mary a Woburn High School graduate of the class of 1953, was married to her high school sweetheart, Paul C. McLaughlin, in 1955. The two of them began their family in 1957, together raising five children.
Mary was always very active in her children´s lives, from volunteering at the Goodyear School, to being involved in Pop Warner and making annual trips to Disney World. After her children all entered grade school, Mary obtained her nursing degree and spent many years caring for others, including two years at Winchester Hospital and ten years at the Woburn Nursing Home. Later in her career she was the Medical Records Manager for InstaCare untill she retired in 1996.
During her eleven years of retirement, Mary and her husband Paul vacationed, for the month of March, in Florida. They also, during their fifty-one years of marriage, traveled, often with friends, extensively throughout the United States as well as many Caribbean Islands. Traveling was one of Mary´s favorite leisure persuits and she love experiencing new destinations.
Mary´s love for her family and friends was abundant. She devoted her life to them and enjoyed spending time in their company. Mary had a gregarious personality and those who met her, never forgot her. She lived every day to the fullest and took time to enjoy its precious moments. She had a wonderful sense of humor and even in her very last days she kept her family laughing. She was also a amazingly strong women and faced every life experience with dignity and pragmatism. In Mary´s leisure she enjoyed reading, knitting, dining out and shopping.
Mary´s family comments that, although they are deeply saddened by their loss, they are taking this time to celebrate her life. They will miss her dearly and will always keep her near to their hearts.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband Paul and their five children: Sharon and her husband Louis Marrama of Lynnfield; Paul McLaughlin Jr., Laurie and her husband Glenn Morris, Barry and his wife Lauren McLaughlin all of Woburn; and Maureen and her husband Daniel Miller of Concord, NH;
Mary was also the loving “Nana” of Erica (Marrama) Wright and her husband Dennis; Sean, Colleen and Brandon McLaughlin and Kerrie (McLaughlin) Redman and her husband Jeff; Chris, Kyle, and Keith Morris; Jaime and Jason Miller; and Brian McLaughlin. She is also survived by three great grandchildren and two very special friends, Brady and Max. Mary was predeceased by her parents Frances (Cuozzi) and Paul Rantono.
Her funeral will be held from the McLaughlin – Dello Russo Fuenral Home, 60 Pleasant St. Woburn on Monday, June 4, at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Church, 280 Main St. Woburn at 10. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit at the funeral home on Sunday, June 3, from 3 thru 7
