Obituary

Justin A. Campeau, 21, of New Bedford died Thursday November 21, 2002 peacefully at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. His parents George and Diane and his brother Jonathan were at his side at the time of his death.

Justin was a graduate of New Bedford High School and was a senior at the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. He was a viola performance major and was studying with Larry Dutton of the Emerson Quartet. At the Hartt School, Justin was a member of many chamber groups and the symphony orchestra. He also enjoyed hosting a classical music program on the university's FM music station. He was the president of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity on campus.

At New Bedford High School, Justin was a member of the National Honor Society and played in the school orchestra and sang in the Concert Chorale. He competed and won membership in both District and All State Orchestras for all four years on High School. One of his greatest experiences was to play as a member of the 1999 All Eastern Honors Symphonic Orchestra which performed at Carnegie Hall. A computer enthuiast, Justin was a member of the computer club and worked for the computer department during the summer.

Justin was a member of the Fall River Symphony Orchestra for four years and the Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestra for four years. At RIPYO, he also studied with his beloved mentor, Ann Danis.

Over and above Justin's love for music, computers, and of course, Star Trek, was his lust for life. His will to live helped him to battle leukemia to his last day. His smile and desire to "win the battle" helped to encourage many of the people who were with him during his illness.His parents, brother, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends will miss him. He brought joy to the hearts of many people. Our world was a better place while Justin was here.

In addition to his parents and brother, he is survived by his grandparents, Deacon Maurice and Therese Lavallee of New Bedford and Jeannette Campeau of Fall River; and aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

He was the grandson of the late George J. Campeau.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass in St. John Neumann Church, East Freetown, Sunday evening, November 24th at 7 PM.

Visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Sunday afternoon, November 24th from 1-4 PM.

Burial in St. John's Cemetery will be private.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, Brookline, MA 02445-7295.
