Obituary

Robert A. Painter, age 85, and long time resident of Winchester, died on May 25, 2007 following a long illness. Mr. Painter graduated from Worcester Polytechnical Institute in 1943, majoring in aeronautical engineering. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and Lau Beta Phi Honorary Society. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II.
In 1967, he founded and was president of Electronic Instrument and Specialty Corporation and later expanded his work in the electronic field becoming president of Beta Labs, Inc. and Specialty Corporation. The business operations were located in Winchester and later in Stoneham where he held several patents for surface mount machines. The business was sold to Prime Technologies in 1989.
He was a trustee of Stoneham Savings Bank, Director of Small Business Administration New England (SBANE) and member of IEEE and AIM. He is a former member of the Winchester Boat Club and Winchester Country Club.
Mr. Painter is survived by his beloved wife, Louise G. (Brennan), his daughter, Carol Scott, her husband Tom, his son Robert A. Painter, Jr. and his wife Patrice. He is also survived by four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A Memorial Mass for Mr. Painter is being held on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 10:00, Saint Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St. in Winchester. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc., 311 Arsenal St. Watertown,MA 02472.
