John G. Barclay, 66, of Wellesley, died May 27, 2007 at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was the former husband of Judith A. Barclay.
Mr. Barclay was born in Quincy and was the son of Helen M. (Tinson) Barclay of Weston and the late John Earl Barclay. He has been a Wellesley resident for many years.
John received his Masters Degree in Education from Boston College and went on to teach English, Speech and Theatre at Weston High School for 25 years and directed over 250 plays and musicals in the town.
He was the Director and Co-Founder of the Weston Friendly Society and the Weston Drama Work Shop. He also directed for the Wellesley Players and the Oxford Playhouse in England.
A member of the St. John the Evangelist Church Choir, John also was the Regional Director of Training at Marriott International for 20 years. He also taught communications at Regis College.
He is survived by two sons; John G. “Jay” Barclay Jr. of Brooklyn, NY and William D. Barclay of Brooklyn, NY and one daughter; Christine A. Barclay of Weston. He was the brother of David Earl Barclay of Wellesley.
His funeral will be held from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) Wellesley, on Monday, June 4th at 10:00 AM with a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Wellesley Hills, at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 6-10 PM. Interment will be private.
