David A. Hicks, Sr., 69 of Londonderry, NH, died Sunday, May 27, 2007 in the Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH. Mr. Hicks was born in the Elliot Hospital, Manchester on October 26, 1937, a son of the late Daniel F. and Hazel (Plummer) Hicks, Sr.. He was a life long resident of Londonderry. Mr. Hicks graduated from Pinkerton Academy, class of 1956. He worked for Sunnycrest Farm and Moores Trucking. He also was a fire fighter with the Londonderry Fire Department for 33 years, retiring in 1989. He spent 17 years as Londonderry’s first full-time Fire Chief. Mr. Hicks served with the Air National Guard from 1956-1973 and was activated from 1961-1962 during the Berlin Crisis. He owned Dave’s Flying A in Derry, NH from 1962-1969. Mr. Hicks was a forest fire warden, a member of the American Legion Post #27 in Londonderry and a member of the New England Association of Fire Chiefs. He was instrumental in the building of the central fire station in Londonderry in 1978 and was honored as Citizen of the Year in 1981. He enjoyed boating and fishing and enjoyed his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne (Menard) Hicks of Londonderry, two sons, David A. Hicks, Jr. and his wife Carla-Rae of Londonderry, William F. Hicks and his wife Lynette of Manchester, four grandchildren, Sarah, Elizabeth, Tyler and Allyssa, two brothers, George "Bud" Hicks and his wife Irene of Londonderry, Daniel Hicks and his wife Gretchen of Londonderry, a sister, Shirley Belger of Bridgton, ME, two sisters-in-law, Arlene Hicks and Yvette Hicks, both of Londonderry and also by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul and Robert Hicks and an infant sister, Elaine.
Visiting hours were held 2-4 and 6-8pm Wednesday, May 30, 2007 in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. The funeral was held at 10:00am Thursday in the funeral home. The burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery, Londonderry. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Food Pantry at the First United Methodist Church, 961 Valley St., Manchester, NH 03103.
