Abington- Chester B.L. MacKay 76, died Wednesday May 23rd in the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Janice (Gilholm) MacKay.
Born in Boston and raised in Nova Scotia he was the son of Chester and Annie (Morrison) MacKay.
Chester was a veteran of United States Army serving in Korea during the Korean War. He was wounded during battle at Satri Valley, Korea on December 30, 1952. He was the recipient of a Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.
He worked as a carpenter all his life and was a member of the Carpenter’s Union.
He moved to Abington in the mid sixties and was a member of the Polish Club of Abington.
He is survived by his children Mary Mastrangelo of Abington, Jeanne Henshaw of Virginia his brothers Kenny MacKay and Hugh MacKay, of Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia his sisters Willemena Heger of Florida, Shirley Baker and Tena Hutt of Sackville, Nova Scotia, his grandchildren Amanda Mastrangelo and Ellen Henshaw. He was the father of the late Arthur Mackay. He is also survived by many nieces.
His funeral will be held Thursday May 31st at 10:00AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte 58 @ the rotary circle) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Abington. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 9-10AM.
