Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Douglas A. Poulsen, 84, died Thursday, May 24, 2007 in the Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. He was the loving devoted husband of Ethel (May) Poulsen.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada on April 3, 1923, he was the son of the late Hilvardt and Beatrice May (Attwood) Poulsen. He had resided in Halifax for many years before moving to Gloucester fifty-seven years ago. He has also wintered in Mitchell, Georgia for the past twenty-two years.
He was employed as a crane operator at the former Cape Ann Anchor Foundry for thirty-six years before retiring in 1985. Active in Masonic circles, he was a fifty year member of The Tyrian-Acacia Lodge, A.F. & A.M. of Gloucester, Scottish Rite Bodies, Aleppo Temple Shrine in Wilmington and once served as a DeMolay Advisor. He was a member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church, where he sang in the choir and was a member of the Vestry. He was also once a Cub Scout leader, Boy Scout leader and a little league coach.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife of sixty-four years, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Joe Logue of Mitchell, Georgia, a son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Cindy Poulsen of Port Hueneme, California, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, four sisters, Ruth Lynch, Kathleen Billard, Agnes Brooks and Jean Blundell, a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Edna Poulsen all of Canada and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his son, Donald E. Poulsen, a sister, Mary Walker and a brother, Gordon Poulsen.
His funeral services will be held on Thursday in the St. John’s Episcopal Church, Gloucester at 1 p.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 5 -8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Don Poulsen Youth Fund, c/o St. John’s Episcopal Church, 48 Middle St., Gloucester. Interment will be held in the Seaside Cemetery, Lanesville.
