Frances (Flynn) Carney, age 72, of Mystic, CT and Pine Ridge, FL succumbed to cancer on May 23, 2007.
Born in Fair Haven, CT on April 27, 1935, she was the daughter of Thomas and Marian (Sullivan) Flynn. Fran will be missed by her husband, John, of 49 years, her daughter and son-in-law Janice and Stephen Barter of Naples, ME, her sons and daughters-in-law David and Jennifer Carney of Melrose, MA, and Stephen and Lori Carney of Mystic, CT. Fran leaves six grandchildren, Craig and Trent Barter, Caitlin Carney, and Madeline, Olivia and Charlotte Carney who knew her variously as "Granny Franny", "Lady Frances" and just plain "Fran."
She also leaves her brother and sister-in-law Owen and Elizabeth Flynn of Williamsburg, VA and was predeceased by her sister, Marilyn Hale.
Fran was the devoted friend of Jane (Regan) Pulaski for 70 years. The conversation they began in 1937 has sadly reached its conclusion.
Fran graduated from St. Francis Grammar School (Fair Haven, CT), St. Mary's High School (New Haven, CT) and Quinnipiac College (Hamden, CT).
Fran touched many lives during her journey. Thirty-seven years of her life were spent in Enfield where she raised her family, provided physical therapy to children with disabilities and taught English to immigrants. She was an Assistant Registrar at election time in Enfield.
Fran accompanied John on trips throughout Europe and Asia, but was just as content to be home with her friends and family. She was a loyal fan of UCONN Huskies Men's and Women's basketball.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church, 32 East Main Street, Mystic on Saturday, May 26th at 12noon. The is There will be no procession from the funeral home and there are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Fran's memory may be made to St. Francis School Development Office; 423 Ferry St., Fair Haven CT 06513, (203)777-0880. Any flowers must be delivered directly to the church by 11am Saturday.
