Chester L. Hill
...Navy Veteran of three wars; 85
TEWKSBURY - Chester L. Hill, age 85, a Navy veteran of three wars, died Tuesday afternoon,
May 22, at the Blaire House of Tewksbury following a long period of declining health. He was
the husband of Marilyn L. (Pierce) Hill, with whom he had celebrated a 59th wedding anniversary
this past August 23rd.
He was born in Lowell, on March 31, 1922, a son of the late Ernest and Edith ( Nystrom) Hill,
and was raised in Lowell and Chelmsford. He graduated from Chelmsford High School with the
Class of 1939. Following his discharge from the U.S. Navy, he lived in Tewksbury. He retired to
St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands where he lived for over 20 years. He returned to Tewksbury
last year due to declining health.
He retired from the U.S. Navy after a distinguished career that began in WWII, extended through
the Korean War, and ended in the early years of the Vietnam War. Since his military retirement,
he had worked as an avionics (aircraft electronics) specialist at the Beverly Airport in Beverly,
MA.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Linda Lemire and her husband Theodore of
Lowell, Nancy St. Croix and her partner Larry Soutiere of Hinesburg, VT, a sister-in-law,
Priscilla (Knowlton) Hill of Plymouth, NH; four grandchildren, Dawn Marie Fagundes and her
husband Carlos of Lowell, Greg Lemire of Orlando, FL, Justin St. Croix and Erik St. Croix and
his wife Alexis all of VT; three great grandchildren, Alison and Sarah Fagundes, and Harmony
Lemire; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also father of the late Janet Hill, and brother of the late Kenneth R. “Dick” Hill.

At his request all funeral services will be private.
