Obituary

WEBSTER – Henry P. “Hank” Dowgiewicz, 80, of 17 Upland Avenue, died Monday, May 21, at Hubbard Regional Hospital after being stricken ill at home.

He leaves his wife of 57 years, Gladys T. (Komorek) Dowgiewicz; a son, Michael J. Dowgiewicz and his wife Susan of Clinton Township, MI; a daughter, Charlene M. French and her husband David of Stafford, VA; a brother, Edward Dowgiewicz and his wife Shirley of Webster; 5 grandchildren, Katie, Joe, Meg, Todd and Molly; several nephews and a niece.

He was born in Webster, the son of Paul M. and Helen B. (Lenkiewicz) Dowgiewicz and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Bartlett High School in 1943.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Dowgiewicz was a printer for the Webster Times for 25 years and then was a purchasing agent at Guardian Industries for over 15 years, retiring in 1988.

He was a member of Saint Joseph Basilica and its Sacred Heart Society. He served as a collector at his parish for 40 years. He was a member and past commander of the Polish American Veterans, and also a member of the Webster-Dudley American Legion Post #184. He was a life member of the Webster Lodge of Elks #1466. He was a road commissioner for the Town of Webster for 20 years.

The funeral will be held Friday, May 25, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. The Webster-Dudley Veterans’ Council will provide the military honors. Calling hours are from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, May 24, in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Saint Joseph School Immediate Needs Fund, 53 Whitcomb St., Webster, MA 01570.
