Mrs. Bernice Eugena (Samson) Rice, beloved wife of the late Kenneth B. Rice and a life long resident of Medford, Massachusetts, died suddenly, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford. She was 100 years old.
She was born on June 29, 1906, in Melrose, Massachusetts, she was a beloved daughter of the late Frederick E. and Annie B. (Pratt) Samson. She was a graduate of the Medford High School, class of 1924. Mrs. Rice had been a secretary for more than 30 years for the Medford Public School System, working directly for the superintendent’s office. She was a lifelong and active member of the Grace Episcopal Church of Medford and served on the periodical club at the church, for many years. In addition, she was a long time member of the Medford Historical Society and a member of the Eastern Starr. In her spare time, Mrs. Rice enjoyed traveling, especially with her beloved late husband, Kenneth, cooking and playing her piano.
Mrs. Rice will be sorely missed by her beloved son; Robert F. Rice of Wollaston, loving daughter and son-in-law; Linda B. and her husband Wesley Foote, Jr. of Medford, 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother-in-law of the late Marilou (Finlay) Rice and sister of the late Esther Norris, Annamay Flahive, Ruth Libby and Frederick E. Samson, Jr.
Her funeral service was celebrated by the Reverend Thomas Cook in the Grace Episcopal Church 160 High Street, Medford, Saturday, May 19, 2007, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends were most welcome to attend. Visiting hours were held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Friday, May 18, 2007, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment was in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Donations in Bernice’s memory may be made to the Grace Episcopal Church, 160 High Street, Medford, Massachusetts 02155.
