Gertrude P. (O'Connell) Boesen, a 41 year resident of Wakefield, died on Thursday, May 17, 2007, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following an extended illness. She was 79 years old.
Gertrude was born in Charlestown on February 9, 1928. She grew up in Charlestown, where she attended parochial grade school, the Clarence R. Edwards Middle School and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1946. She worked for 12 years for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Metropolitan District Commission, as an administrator in their engineering offices on Somerset Street in Boston. She retired in 1992. Most of her life, Gertrude dedicated her life to taking care of her husband and children and making life as easy as possible for each one of them. Mostly she was a homemaker until her family grew.
Gertrude is the beloved wife of 50 years to Donald H. Boesen. She is the devoted mother of Sandra Callahan and her husband Jack of Wakefield, Brian Boesen and his wife Paula of Waverly, West Virginia, Diane Jones and her husband Dan of Reading, Karl Boesen and his wife Kathy of Billerica. She is the loving Nana to Derek Jones and Kristen Callahan. She is the beloved sister of Catherine O'Connell of Charlestown, Margaret Caron of South Weymouth, Rita Feeney of Moody, Maine, Elizabeth DiMella of Saugus, John "Skinhead" O'Connell of Charlestown and the late Mary and Edward O'Connell. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Gertrude's Funeral will be held on Monday May 21, 2007, at 10 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main Street, Wakefield/Melrose line, followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Avenue, Wakefield, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Gertrude will be held on Sunday May 20, 2007, from 2 to 6 p.m. Burial will take place at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
