Jean-Marc Fontaine, 85, of Barnes Street, died Sunday, May 6, 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton, Massachusetts. He was the husband of Gloria (Dion) Fontaine. They were married for 36 years.
Born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Arthur and Florida (Fortin) Fontaine. He lived in Greenville for 36 years.
Mr. Fontaine was a WWII Army veteran and served in Burma. He was a Chairman of the Woonsocket Republican City Committee and served on the Executive Committee of the Republican State Central Committee. He was High Sheriff of Providence County from 1963-1969 and President and Treasurer of the Bay Container Company in Warwick from 1972-1977. He was self employed until retirement in 1987.
He is also survived by his son J. Marc Fontaine, two daughters Jocelyn Allaire and Susan Wenzinger and a stepdaughter, Patricia Dumas.
Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Wednesday at 11am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Avenue, Greenville. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the American Lung Association, 298 West Exchange Street, Providence, RI 02903.
