Obituary

GEORGE MASON LORING, JR., age 77, of Hernando, Florida, owner of a photography studio in Hingham for 50 years, died on March 14th, 2007 in Inverness, Florida after a brief illness. Mr. Loring was born in Brockton and was a lifelong Hingham resident before retiring to Thornton, New Hampshire and Florida. His childhood residence is now the Strawberry Fair Restaurant at Queen Anne's Corner. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Loring opened the George M. Loring Studio in 1957, where he worked on commercial and news photography as well as studio protraits. Since 1983, the studio has been operated by his son, George M. Loring, III of Weymouth.
Besides photography, he had a passion for oil painting and enjoyed teaching others. He played the mandolin, banjo and the accordion in two bands, the Country Travelers in Citrus County, Florida and the Blake Mountain Band in New Hampshire.
He was a member of the Beverly Hills Horseshoe Club, the Citrus Springs Horseshoe Club both in Florida and Old Colony Masonic Lodge in Hingham.
In addition to his son, he is survived by his wife of 16 years, Regina M. Loring of Hernando; another son, David Loring of Cape Cod; a brother, Robert Loring of Zephyrhills, FL; four sisters, Barbara Sullivan of Wilmington, Dorothy Bartlett and Jean Lawton of Beverly Hills, FL and Ruth McFarland of Clemson, SC. He is also survived by four grandchildren, one great grandson and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Monday, May 21st at 1 PM at the Old Ship Church, 90 Main St., Hingham.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Plymouth Regional Senior Center, P.O. Box 478, Plymouth, NH 03264.
The interment was private.
