Obituary

George B. Monteiro, 83, of Rockville, MD died Friday May 11, 2007 after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Isabel (Andrews) Monteiro.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Manuel R. and Constance (Baptista) Monteiro, he lived in Rockville for many years.
Mr. Monteiro was formerly employed as an engineer for I.B.M. in Gaithersburg, MD.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He was a Past Commander of the Florence Eastman Post 280 American Legion in Mattapoisett.
Survivors include three children, Steven Monteiro and his wife Nanci Banks of Olney, MD, Nancy O’Briant of Gaithersburg, and Linda Brewer and her husband Jesse of Tucson, AZ; two brothers, Adolph Monteiro of New Bedford and Joseph Monteiro of Wareham; five sisters, Evelyn Almeida, Mary Ames, Alice Leighton, Marion Barrows, and Betty Fermino, all of New Bedford; five grandchildren, Brette and Allyn Monteiro, Matthew O’Briant, Justin and Brandon Brewer; three great-grandchildren, Georgiann, Samuel, and Jalen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Pauline Cardoza, Edward, Robert, and Arthur Monteiro.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM in St. Anthony’s Church. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 6-9 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett.
