Obituary



WEBSTER – Jean Ellen (Thompson) McGuinness, 85, wife of the late Howard V. McGuinness, formerly of Webster, MA and Parsonage Road, Higganum, CT, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, at Chestelm Health and Rehab Center in Moodus, CT.

She was born on November 10, 1921 in Dudley, MA, the daughter of the late James A. and Rita (Leedham) Thompson. She attended school in Dudley and Webster, MA, was a graduate of Mt. St. Mary High School in Hooksett, NH and Framingham State College in 1943. She taught Home Economics for twenty years, first in Northampton, MA and then in the Webster/Dudley School System. Jean was a communicant of St. Louis Church, Webster, MA, where she had been a member of the St. Louis League of Catholic Women and the St. Louis Book Club. She was the secretary of her class at Framingham State and a member of the Alumni Association.

Jean leaves two daughters and sons-in-law, the Reverend R. Maureen and Alan L. Hawksley of Higganum, CT and Barbara J. and Randy Davies of Azusa, CA; four
grandchildren, Allison Davies of Mountain View, CA, Kevin Davies of Azusa, CA, Laura Hawksley of Higganum and Stephen Hawksley of Higganum; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, Frank J. Thompson and James L. Thompson, and by two nieces, Kathleen Bazinet and Mary Ellen Thompson.

The family would like to thank the Middlesex Hospital VNA staff of Clinton, her home care givers, and the entire staff of Chestelm Health and Rehab Center in Moodus for the compassionate care they gave Jean during the past several years.

Calling hours will be Monday, May 14, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM in the Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver Street, Middletown, CT and from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Tuesday, May 15, in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St. The funeral will be held Wednesday, May 16, from Scanlon Funeral Service with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake St. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. Flowers may be sent or donations be made to Chestelm Auxiliary, PO Box 719, Moodus, CT 06469, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial and Honor Program, 201 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, Bethesda, MD 20814.
