GLOUCESTER: Lorraine (Hiland) Witham, 73, died Wednesday, May 9, 2007 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Joseph F. Witham, Jr. who died in 1983.
Born in Gloucester on September 15, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Lucius R. and Anna M. (Forest) Hiland. A lifelong resident of Gloucester, she was a graduate of Gloucester High School class of 1951 and the Fisher Junior College in Boston.
Lorraine was employed as a hostess at Cameron’s Restaurant in Gloucester for many years. She also worked as a legal secretary at the S.K. Derderian Law Office in Beverly for several years.
She enjoyed playing cribbage at Cameron’s Restaurant and at the Rose Baker Senior Center. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, scrabble and especially the beach and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa W. and Edward C. cutler of Newbury, three sons and three daughters-in-law, Jay P. and Joanne (Herrick) Witham, David M. and Allison (Morrissey) Witham, Gary J. Witham and Kimberly (Spellman) Witham all of Gloucester, five grandchildren, Jason and Andrew Cutler both of Newbury and Erika, Sarah and David Witham all of Gloucester, two sisters-in-law, Rosamund Muise of Groveland and Polly Fields of Marion, a brother-in-law, James and his wife, Jean Witham of Mashpee, her beloved dog, “Angus” and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by a son, Matthew J. Witham.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday in the Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church, Gloucester at 11 A.M. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. At the family's request, there are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701. Interment was held privately in the Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
